A little bit more about the TR Beastie Boys
We pride ourselves on being a dog friendly café but the first animals to enter TR were our popular Beastie Boys and we thought it was time to tell you a bit more about the trio!
Customers, young and old travel from near and far to see them and they’ve built up a real fan base, donning various themed outfits throughout the year, including their Halloween and Christmas costumes knitted by their auntie Helen.
But did you know that despite their name, they aren’t actually all boys!! When we bought the original pair, we thought they were both males and decided that the Beastie Boys was the perfect name for them – but in time we discovered the bigger of the two was in fact a girl!
She is quite a character and loves cuddles and affection, with the small beastie boy being a little bit shy.
In 2023 we were asked if we would be able to offer a third Beastie Boy, already named Bulbasaur (kids will be familiar with the name thanks to a Pokémon character) a new home, and we were more than happy to help so two became three.
To make the trio as comfortable as possible we had a large enclosure built, complete with a bedding area and heated lamps. There’s also underfloor heating adding to their home comforts.
Just a few weeks after getting Bulbasaur, history repeated itself when we found out he was actually a she – and we felt it was time to give the group a new name, asking for the help of the public through Facebook.
Customers came up with some brilliant names, but we really liked Mary, Mungo and Midge.
We felt the names keep with the vintage theme here at TR as the names come from a popular TV show aired in the 1970s.
Now we can’t get the programme’s theme tune out of our heads!
