We are delighted to be hosting a special pop event on Thursday November 23rd<\/sup>, for our friends from Alford Valley Community Railway to help ra\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00adise funds for the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The railway plays an important part in the heritage of Alford \u2013 the station is located at what used to be the terminus of the Alford Valley Railway when it ran from Alford to Kintore and connected with the Great North of Scotland Railway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The line to Haughton Park was built in the early 1980s, and lots of people across the North-east have fond memories of riding on the train when they visited the area on holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sadly, the line closed in 2017, with the AVCR taking over in August 2022. The voluntary organisation has worked tirelessly to open the line, and the extensive refurbishment to the station and railway has seen it open to the public once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the volunteers were working on the line, we were delighted to be able to provide them with refreshments, and we have also donated walkie talkies, a vacuum cleaner, lights, a coffee machine and various other items to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pop-up event here at TR will see the craft group from the society displaying their beautiful handmade goods, with bags, knitted and crotched items, keyrings, cards and much more for sale. All funds will go straight to the AVCR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as all the crafters you can browse our wonderful gift ideas with products from local producers including pottery, art work, clothing and jewellery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the caf\u00e9 will stay open until 7pm too, serving a great selection of sweet and savoury treats, and delicious speciality hot drinks including gingerbread lattes and hot chocolates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here at TR we are keen to reinstate the memories we and local families have of the railway \u2013 and we\u2019re sure the Alford community will show their support too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
